Frequently Asked Questions
What services does Critter Buddies® provide?
We provide daily dog walking, vacation pet sitting (day visits as well as overnight sleepovers!), drop in visits, taxi service to groomers and vets, and much, much more! All services take place in YOUR home, so your pets do not have the stress of acclimating to a new environment. We love to customize our services so you and your fur-kids get exactly what you need. Visit our Services & Rates page for details or contact us to discuss your needs. Please note that we do not offer boarding or drop off care.
How do I get started?
Simply call us at (435) 709-7178 or use the contact form on the right to ask questions and schedule your free Meet & Greet. If we do not answer right away, it’s because we are caring for other fur-kids and want to give them our full attention. We will return your call as soon as possible!
What happens at the Meet & Greet?
At least 48 hours before your first service, we will come to your home to meet you and your fur-kids. We’ll talk about your pet’s special needs and develop a plan for caring for your pet. We’ll go over the service contract, emergency veterinary release and other paperwork and you can show us where your supplies are kept. The Meet & Greet gives us a chance to get to know each other a little and ensure that we are a good fit for each other! After this initial 30-45 minute consultation, you just need to give us keys, dates and times you need us, payment for your services… and we’re ready to start!
Is there a charge for the required Meet & Greet?
No. There is no charge for the initial Meet & Greet when booking a service. However, if you require additional consultations or visits before booking a daily or vacation service (or you want a Meet & Greet “just in case for the future”), there will be a charge for those visits.
Is Critter Buddies® insured and/or bonded?
Yes! We are professional pet sitters, not “hobby sitters”. As professionals, we carry insurance and are also licensed AND bonded for your protection.
How far in advance do I need to make reservations?
As far in advance as possible! Because we devote time specifically to you and your fur-family, we book up quickly. If you are a new client, a free Meet & Greet is required at least 48 hours in advance before we can provide service to you. It is preferred that all clients book their services at least 3 or 4 days in advance to allow us time to meet your needs. We can sometimes accommodate short notice requests, but they may be subject to a late booking fee.
How do I prepare for my Critter Buddy’s® Visit?
We’re glad you asked because there are things Pet Parents can do to make sure their pet’s care goes as smoothly as possible. Simply visit our Why Hire a Professional Pet Sitter page and scroll down to the section titled “Helping the Pet Sitter and your Pet” for details.
What days does Critter Buddies® provide their services?
We work 7 days a week, and are available every day of the year (including all weekends and holidays). There is a surcharge for care on and around major holidays. We book up quickly though, so be sure to make your reservations early!
How long does each visit last?
Our mid-day weekday visits start at 15 minutes, but can also be scheduled for 30 or 60 minutes. Our most common services are 30 minute dog walks, 1 hour vacation visits and quick potty breaks. Need a multi-hour extended visit or overnight sleepover? We do those too!
Will you provide updates on how my pet is doing while I am away?
Yes! We leave notes for mid-day dog walks/visits and a log for vacation care. We can also text you once daily if you wish.
How many times a day should I have my Critter Buddy® visit my fur-kids?
It’s best to keep your pets’ routines as close to normal as possible. We can discuss the best care plan with you to ensure your pets are healthy and happy.
Can you visit my cat just once every few days while I’m gone?
No. For the safety of your kitty-kids, the minimum number of visits for cats is once per day.
My dog is an “outside dog”. Can you just stop by to feed them each day?
For liability reasons and for the safety of your pets, we are unable to care for “outside dogs” with unsupervised access to the outdoors.
How much do you charge?
Prices vary depending on the type of service and number of pets. Please visit our Services & Rates page for more information and please contact us for a detailed quote.
What if my pet becomes ill or is injured while I’m away?
Your Critter Buddy® is certified in pet CPR and first aid is trained to watch for signs of illness or injury. If a vet visit is needed, we will take your pet to your usual vet (if practical) and will follow the instructions you gave us in your Veterinary Release. In case of an emergency however, we might need to use an alternate vet or emergency clinic.
If my pet has an “accident” do you clean it up?
Of course! We always care for your pets as if they are our own and we will clean up after your pets to the best of our ability. If there are accidents above and beyond a normal amount, we may charge a reasonable fee for clean up time. If there are consistent accidents, we will ask you to book an additional visit in the day.
Can I have the same Critter Buddy® each time?
We have an excellent team of Critter Buddies that work different shifts and areas. While we cannot guarantee that you will have the same Critter Buddy each time, we do our best to stay consistent. In any case, rest assured that all of our Critter Buddies are trained, know your pets’ needs, and are covered under our liability and bonding insurance policies.
What happens if I am delayed in returning home?
It is extremely important that you let us know immediately if you will be arriving home late from your vacation in order for care to be continued. We also always require that you text or call us once you arrive home so we know your fur-kids are safe and back in your care.
Will you charge me for visits if I come home early?
Once you reserve your dates, we devote our time specifically to you and your fur-family. Therefore, if you return home early, you are still responsible for the original reservation fees. However, we understand that things may happen and we have a cancellation policy posted on our Policies page to help with these situations.
What if there is an emergency in my home, unrelated to my pet?
We will do everything possible to resolve the situation. We will contact you and your emergency contacts for assistance and advise you of the situation.
Do you keep client information / key / alarm codes confidential?
Absolutely! We do not share client contact information for marketing or any other purpose, and your personal records are kept secure at all times. If not with your Critter Buddy®, your house keys are stored in a locked safe using our proprietary coding system. Your name and address are never attached to your keys.
Will you keep my house keys?
We can keep your key on file to make future services easy to book. If you would like us to do this, please make sure to have two working copies at the time of the Meet & Greet. If you would like your keys returned after your services are completed, we can deliver them, but there is a charge for a key return service. We are unable to leave keys in your home on the final visit in case you are delayed in returning home.
May I book my visits directly with my Critter Buddy®?
No. Your visits will NOT be covered under our liability and bonding insurance and we cannot ensure adequate care if you do not book through us directly. All visits must be booked through our office by calling 435-709-7178 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
May I give my Critter Buddy® a gratuity?
Yes! Your Critter Buddy loves and cares for your pets like they are part of their family. While tips are not expected, they are certainly appreciated! You may leave a gratuity for your Critter Buddy at your home or you may call the office to have the gratuity added to your credit card. Our Critter Buddies NEVER take anything from your home without express permission, so if you leave a gratuity at your home, please leave a note with it so your Critter Buddy knows it is a tip for them. Otherwise, they will not take it!
